French toast is usually served on the weekends at my house for breakfast.
Saturday night was burger night and I made a quick run into Whole Foods. No, I don’t shop there often, but they do have a handful of items that you can’t pass up. One of those items are the Challah Buns. They’re seriously egg perfected buns that are soft and yummy and soak up the burger juices and melt in your mouth.
The package has 8 buns. We used 4 and the comment post dinner was “these rolls would make great french toast“.
Indeed they did. I took 2 beaten eggs about 1/2 cup of almond milk (vanilla – sweetened) and some cinnamon and about 1 Tbsp sugar and mixed it together. I dipped both sides of the bun (after I cut them in half) in the egg mixture and then cooked them on the stove in this giant non stick saute pan I have.
I sprinkled some powdered sugar on them and cut them in half.
I served them with our meal staples. Fruit salad and a Greek salad (thanks to some crumbled feta from Whole Foods). Voila. Breakfast is served.
What a great way to start the day. Nothing was too heavy or too sweet. It was perfect.
